The Finest Premix Cocktails to High-ten your Spirits

The party season should be about having fun without waiting. Backyard parties are no longer a stressful task for the host; everything becomes easier when the top cocktail premix brands are brought to the bar counter. Bidisha Barik has some amazing premix cocktail brands that only require a few components to get you on the dance floor. Vaishali Mehta, Co-Founder of SWA Artisanal Syrups, spills the beans on the challenges that came with being a seven-month pregnant woman starting a cocktail company and how there is still a deep-rooted prejudice against women owning a start-up in the cocktail sector.

Food and flavour have been the principal topics of conversation for Vaishali Mehta both at and away from the dinner table. A Gujarati born and raised in Calcutta, her employment led her to New York, where she was astounded by the freshness of the ingredients utilised in their drinks. Despite India’s abundance of natural produce, she was astonished to find artificial, imported, and preservative-filled concentrates peddled in the name of taste and unique flavours. She was adamant about giving Indian fruits and products the respect they deserved. SWA was created when she combined this with her desire to work for women’s skill development.

How did the idea of working in the cocktail sector strike you?

I’ve always wanted to start a business in the food & beverage industry, but my determination strengthened after I was let off from a promising job after being pregnant. I noticed that women are replaced in the workplace once they become pregnant or are on maternity leave. Becoming a mother and the desire to create something unique, to convey via my acts that women are far more powerful and capable than society portrays got me here. When I was seven months pregnant, I began my SWA journey. I’m grateful for the traumatic experience I had to go through while still enjoying the most beautiful moments of parenting; the tragedy let me realise my mission more clearly.

There are taboos deeply rooted against women. Do you agree?

Women are still laid back about marking financial independence on their own. It is important to understand that to break the deeply rooted taboos, we those taboos through our actions. Our grannies fought to undo parda and ghonghat, our moms fought to take charge of their education and ours. We take it to next level and claim the board rooms.

There is a way of life that many educated women, including myself, fall back on from time to time. Believe it or not, I didn’t have a credit card until around 6 months ago. When I spoke with someone, they claimed that 85 per cent of their clientele (basically credit card holders) are men.

Referring to the social stigma of labelling women as “socially-conditioning” she says, “Sub-consciously we have wired ourselves to be a certain way.”

What makes SWA Artisanal Syrups stand out?

Most of us have used artificial, imported, and preservative-filled concentrates in the name of taste and exotic flavours. Living in a country filled with a rich variety of natural products, it is surprising that we’ve had to rely heavily on artificial flavours so far. SWA Artisanal Syrups are 100% natural, free of any added preservatives, colours, or artificial flavours. They make delicious cocktails, mocktails, iced teas and craft coffees. We are a woman-owned and run company. Each SWA bottle is hand-crafted in small batches by women trained under a skill upliftment program.

Quick Takes!

Her cocktail recommendations are a resounding yes!

1. What’s your go-to cocktail for a party?

With some SWA hibiscus tea, make a gin and tonic.

2. What was the one recipe that made your spirits high?

45 ml gin, 10 ml lemon juice, 20 ml SWA Hibiscus Tea or SWA Mango Passion, tonic water, or soda on the rocks, and plenty of ice. Anywhere and anytime you want to feel like you’re in the tropics.

3. Flavour premixes that you can’t go wrong with?

For Indians who live in a tropical nation that is hot most of the year, fruity, sweet, and zesty flavours are our favourites, and adding a hint of spice is the icing on the cake. We may not appreciate particularly powerful classic cocktails as a culture. SWA Guava Chilli and SWA Jamun Kalakhatta are two of my favourite beverages. We also enjoy experimenting, and SWA pre-mixes enable us to do so. Make a drink, either a cocktail or a mocktail. Everyone is happy.

The Fresh Faces of India’s Clean Eating Revolution

Eat Right Clean eating is no longer a fad but a necessity in the times we live in, and several startups are making sure this is a choice that is easy to make. As people take charge of their health and well-being, eating clean is one of the most important priorities. BINDU GOPAL RAO features seven startups that are helping make this change, one plate at a time. Nutreat Hyderabad-based Nutreat was born in 2014 out of a personal need to provide clean, wholesome food for the founder’s son. Over time, this evolved into a deeper mission: to craft handmade, customised nutrition rooted in ancestral Indian food wisdom. “We handcraft each product using our signature four-step process sprouting, sun-drying, slow roasting, and stone grinding and tailor it to the individual’s age, health condition, and dietary needs. Nutreat promotes clean eating not just by avoiding processed ingredients, but by ensuring every spoonful is mindfully made and consciously consumed. In 2023, when our business was at its peak with franchise opportunities, foreign collaborations, and incubation offers we made a bold decision. We stepped back. We refused to bulk produce because it was creating false demand, pressuring both our team and consumers to buy more than they needed. That turning point reaffirmed our belief in nooverbuying and consciousconsumerism. Clean eating, we believe, must also be mindful free of waste, hype, or excess. While the wellness industry grows, we often see food wastage even in the name of healthy eating. Our model of customisation ensures that we make only what’s needed, drastically reducing waste while offering personalised nutrition,” says Jyothi Sri Pappu, Founder & CEO, Nutreat. Moving forward, their goal is to scale impact, not volume, by nurturing conscious consumers, supporting women artisans, and creating a food culture rooted in purpose. The Kenko Life

Zodiac & Wellness: What Your Sign Says About You

Wellness isn’t one-size-fits-all. While one person finds joy in running marathons, another prefers quiet meditation with incense and a cup of herbal tea. What if your approach to self-care, health, and healing could be traced back to your zodiac sign? Here’s a zodiac-based guide to aligning your wellness rituals with your sun sign’s unique energy. Aries (March 21 – April 19) Element: FireVibe: Energetic, bold, competitiveWellness Style: Action-oriented and driven, Aries thrives on intense physical activity. Think HIIT workouts, CrossFit, or competitive sports. Tip: You need to burn off excess energy, but remember to balance high-intensity routines with rest. Try yoga or guided breathing exercises to avoid burnout. Taurus (April 20 – May 20) Element: EarthVibe: Grounded, sensual, indulgentWellness Style: Taurus finds joy in slow, luxurious rituals—think spa days, nature walks, and nourishing meals. Tip: Indulgence is great, but be mindful of comfort eating. Incorporate grounding foods and create a soothing bedtime routine for deep, restful sleep. Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Element: AirVibe: Curious, communicative, restlessWellness Style: For Gemini, wellness is all about variety. You might switch between cycling, dancing, or journaling based on your mood. Tip: Focus on mental clarity. Practice breathwork or join group classes that stimulate both mind and body—like barre or Pilates. Cancer (June 21 – July 22) Element: WaterVibe: Emotional, intuitive, nurturingWellness Style: Cancer nurtures others naturally—but don’t forget to care for yourself. Warm baths, emotional check-ins, and comfort food are your go-tos. Tip: Create a “feel-good” routine with calming rituals like chamomile tea, moon journaling, or meditative cooking. Leo (July 23 – August 22) Element: FireVibe: Confident, expressive, vibrantWellness Style: Leos thrive when the spotlight is on. Group workouts, dance classes, and stylish active wear keep you motivated. Tip: Channel your high energy into movement that feels creative—like Zumba or hot yoga.

Morning Rituals Win the Morning Win The Day

Modern lifestyles are often dominated by work, causing us to overlook essential routines that form the foundation of a healthy life. In the constant hustle whether driven by work pleasure or pressure we tend to neglect the growing importance of our well-being. As MANOGNA REDDY reminds us, taking control of our mornings is the first step toward a more balanced and fulfilling life. Enough of the hustle it’s time to prioritise yourself. Mornings offer the perfect opportunity to engage in rituals that energise and ground you for the day ahead. Begin your day with intention, and you’ll start to see meaningful and lasting changes. Do Not Snooze Waking up early grants you precious time to focus on personal health, wellness, and hygiene often the first things we sideline on a busy day. Hitting the snooze button may offer a few extra minutes of rest, but it often steals away time, leaving behind guilt and a rushed start. Embracing an early start not only adds structure to your day but also brings a sense of clarity and control that sets the tone for everything that follows. Hydrate Begin your day with a hot glass of water. This as a practice flushes out toxins from our body and helps aid digestion. You may also add lemon, ginger, or tulsi leaves depending on what suits your body best. Hydrating first thing in the morning awakens your internal system and gives a fresh kickstart to your metabolism. Exercise Give your body the movement it deserves. You don’t need a full gym session just 10 to 20 minutes of stretching, yoga, or a brisk walk can work wonders. Exercise not only strengthens your muscles but also refreshes your mind and uplifts your mood. It also helps you stay disciplined and keeps laziness at bay throughout

Ayurveda Silence and Stars: A Journey Back to Self at Santani

They say just five minutes in nature can start healing your body. At SANTANI WELLNESS Resort, Kandy, it takes even less. Tucked away in the lush hills of Sri Lanka, four hours from Colombo, this isn’t just a resort it’s a sanctuary where modern stress is gently undone by ancient wisdom. When I was invited to review Santani, I was simply expecting a luxurious break. What I received was a transformation of body, mind, and rhythm. Join SINDURI VUPPALA on her journey into one of the world’s most conscious wellness destinations.  When the invitation arrived in my inbox to review Santani Wellness Resort, I paused. The name itself intrigued me. Santani a Sanskrit word meaning “in harmony with” immediately hinted at something deeper than just another luxury spa retreat. As a journalist constantly on the move, my mind cluttered with deadlines and devices, the promise of “balance” sounded too good to be true. I needed it more than I realised. Getting to Santani isn’t a spontaneous affair. It’s a four-hour drive from Colombo airport, winding through misty hills and sleepy villages. But every mile feels like a slow unravelling of the stress that city life knots into your body. As we drove up the final stretch, literally skimming the edge of a mountain range, I rolled down the window and inhaled deeply my first real breath in weeks. The view: endless, green, alive. I didn’t know it yet, but I was already beginning to heal. We were welcomed not with cold towels or champagne flutes, but with something far rarer genuine silence. No music. No chatter. Just the soft murmur of wind through the trees and the gentle bow of a staff member who led us directly to lunch. The chef greeted us personally. “Tell me what your body feels
