With over 15 years behind the console, Mumbai’s DJ AJ (Arjun Shah) has soundtracked some of India’s biggest celebrations, from the Ambani weddings to Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s and Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s. His take on 2026: fusion now means live instruments woven into the set, and no two weddings should sound alike.
2026 Trends
In 2025, Indian wedding music fully embraced crossover sounds: techno and house at cocktail nights, hip-hop-heavy sangeet playlists, and Afro-house-meets-Bollywood. In 2026, that evolution has gone further in two directions.
First, fusion is now about live instrumentation as much as genre. Couples want dhol players, percussionists, saxophonists and violinists woven into the DJ set itself, so the night moves between a club set and a live performance. Second, entertainment has become more immersive and personal. Synced visuals, production concepts like our Hologram Act, and custom edits, from sangeet songs to entry tracks and personal mashups, mean no two weddings sound the same anymore. Bollywood remains the emotional anchor because it connects across generations. What has changed is everything built around it.
Bringing the Couple’s Personality In
It starts with listening. Before I think about a single track, I want to understand who the couple is, what they grew up listening to, what their families connect with, and the feeling they want each function to carry.
DJing is not just about playing music; it’s about reading energy. You have to sense when to build, when to hold back, and when to completely flip the vibe.
The Moment That Stands Out (put in a box)
The Wall Street baraat in May 2025 is one I will never forget. We shut down Wall Street in the Financial District and turned it into a full baraat route, with 400 people dancing through the heart of Manhattan.
Seeing that moment go viral globally was surreal. It showed the world how Indian weddings are evolving and how music sits right at the centre of that. Playing alongside Black Coffee, David Guetta, and The Chainsmokers was also a big highlight for me.
