World’s first-ever Desk for Transgender Community comes up at Gachibowli Police Station in Cyberabad Police Commissionerate in Telangana
Hyderabad, March 06, 2021
The Cyberabad Police Commissionerate in Telangana set up the world’s first help desk for the transgender community at the Gachibowli Police Station in collaboration with Society for Cyberabad Security Council and Prajwala. It was inaugurated on March 6, 2021 by Shri V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, Commissioner, Cyberabad Commissionerate in a ceremony attended by over 200 transgender persons.
The move came after a meeting between the community and the Cyberabad Police ten days ago where the community proposed the idea of a help desk in order to efficiently address issues that they face. The commissioner also said that the desk will work towards inclusiveness of the community.
The desk will be managed by a Police Liaison Officer and a transgender person who is designated as Community Coordinator and will provide support to file cases in offences related to violence or discrimination against any transgender person. Additionally, counselling, legal aid, life-skills, soft skills training, job placements, and referral linkages to welfare schemes will also be provided.
The Society for Cyberabad Security Council will organize monthly employability training and life-skill training and facilitate access to job opportunities. Prajwala will assist the desk to facilitate safe space for any transgender person who needs an emergency transit stay.
