This soft, but fun, modern apartment decor shows us how “modern” doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Enjoy the pops of red, traditional twists and natural wood… Jayavardhini Duggi, takes us on a tour….

Art, colour, and bohemianism—these are words that are synonymous with Jhansi Rani Paturi, the Principal Designer of Cutting Edge Design Studio. And when she steps in to design an apartment, she leaves no stone unturned in making the home a treasure trove of hand paintings and a fun mix of styles.

One of her many prestigious projects is this modern yet not so modern apartment located in the plush area of Hi tech city in Hyderabad. Unlike any other decorated home, this apartment has an artistic feel and an unexpected colour combination that makes it look organic and colourful. Turning away from the regular whites, creams and other neutral tones, the apartment’s easy breezy details and bright colours come together to make the atmosphere a lively one.

Sundari Patibandla CEO – Isprout business centre and Srinivas Boyalla – a government employee, owners of the apartment, were on the lookout for a spacious, clutter-free home especially for their loving dog Mango.

“Our soul lies in art. Right from getting connected with local artisans to procuring vintage elements, we have evolved with this project,” says Jhansi. The high-spirited art collection that runs all over the four- bedroom apartment has been sourced from local artisans residing in various cities of Rajasthan. Jhansi has applied a pattern of bright hues such as oranges and greens all over the house, and has given the regular nooks a dramatic twist in tale.

The hand painted elephants on the cupboards in the bedrooms, the traditional kolams and the contemporary artworks spread across this 4,000 square feet home strike a perfect balance between old and new. While designing the space, Jhansi did not budge into any particular genre or theme.

The living room is warm and inviting to spend a lazy afternoon lounging on the comfortable sofas, binging on some food and watching your favourite Netflix series.  Jhansi has ensured that ample sunlight is received in all areas of the apartment and minimal lights are used during the day. The embellishments that adorn the house have been carefully sourced from various parts of South East Asia like Bali, Thailand etc.

While designing the space, Jhansi did not budge into any particular genre or theme. The home theatre has been specially designed keeping in mind the intensity of the sound and the optimum utilisation of space. The stylish recliners add a comfort factor and ensure every member of the house enjoys this little entertainment space.

The puja room is adorned with little bells and hand paintings of a cow that is considered sacred in most Indian households. Last but definitely not the least, nothing beats the balcony attached to the living area. This cosy little sitting area is packed with lush plants that give one a feel of a backyard in an independent house. The balcony space with its furniture is a visual treat for those who would love to soak up the warm winter sun over a cup of coffee or attend work calls during the day amidst a breath of fresh air. The house is elegant and its distinctive use of colours, tile work and local materials show that Jhansi’s approach to design has much more to it than what it is.
