Less, but Better: The New Way Forward

This year, as I sat watching the shows at Lakmé Fashion Week 2026, one word stayed with me: restraint. Not something we usually associate with Indian fashion, or even with our daily lives. And yet, there it was, quietly, powerful. A season where practicality met creativity, where clothes felt wearable, thoughtful, and occasionally experimental, without screaming for attention.

As the shows went on, that feeling only grew stronger. Restraint felt unexpected, almost radical. Indian fashion has always celebrated opulence and maximalism, but this time, the mood was different. Softer. More considered. It wasn’t about grabbing attention; it was about holding it.

The shift was subtle, but you could feel it. Clothes felt intentional. Not over-the-top, but not boring either. Not extravagant, yet far from ordinary. Even “naked dressing,” which once leaned on boldness, felt more grounded, especially in the context of Indian weddings. It wasn’t about shock anymore. It was about ease, fluidity, and confidence. About showing just enough, and knowing that just enough can be powerful!

And maybe that’s the real takeaway.

We don’t always need to give in to the drama, on the runway or in life. Structured minimalism. Sustainable luxury. Thoughtful choices. It all points to something bigger. The idea that maybe our lives, like our wardrobes, could use a little editing. Less noise. More meaning.

Because somewhere between deadlines, expectations, and the constant pressure to do more, be more, have more, we’ve forgotten the value of restraint. Of pausing. Of choosing with intention. Of leaving space for what really matters.

This issue, in many ways, is about that space. About people finding the time to do what they love. Whether it’s the rising journey of Kayadu Lohar, pet owners becoming more mindful about care, start-up founders breaking norms, or book lovers travelling and shaping what we now call bookstore tourism. It’s about slowing down just enough to follow what feels meaningful.

Because moving forward doesn’t always mean adding more, sometimes it simply means choosing less, but choosing better.

Less, but Better: The New Way Forward. Let’s follow this mantra.
